Uppinangady Police Bust Alleged Counterfeit Currency Printing Racket
Seven arrested after police busted an alleged counterfeit currency printing racket.
Uppinangady police have busted an alleged counterfeit currency printing racket by arresting seven persons and seizing equipment during a raid on Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Uppinangady Police Sub-Inspector Suthesh KP raided a building at Adenja in Kaniyoor village of Belthangady taluk, where fake Indian currency notes were allegedly being printed using electronic equipment.
The arrested have been identified as Ibrahim (60) of Puttur Kasaba and Salman Faris (25) of Olamogru village in Puttur taluk, Sirajuddin (34) of Uruvalu village and Irshad (31) of Puthila village in Belthangady taluk, Sharif (51) of Changala village and Mohammed Nabas (37) of Amur village in Kasaragod district, and Sandeep Pundalik Sholambi (30) of Haliyal taluk in Uttara Kannada district.
The police seized one Rs 500 currency note, 21 A4-size sheets printed to resemble Rs 500 notes, a computer, a photocopier, seals, and other materials suspected of having been used in the counterfeit currency operation.
Police have registered a case at Uppinangady Police Station under Section 178 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and launched an investigation.
The operation was carried out with the assistance of personnel from the Kodagu district police and the Dakshina Kannada District Special Unit. Police are investigating if there were any others connected with the operation.
