Mangaluru: CCB Seizes Rs 5.2-Cr Worth of MDMA, Arrests Two
Police team tracked them to Bagalkote district and intercepted them during the raid
Mangaluru: In the biggest drug seizures made by the Mangaluru City Police, the CCB has arrested two alleged drug peddlers from Dakshina Kannada and seized 5.196 kg of MDMA valued at around Rs 5.20 crore.
The accused were allegedly transporting the contraband from Delhi to Bengaluru for distribution in coastal Karnataka and parts of Kerala.
The arrests were made on July 15 during a raid at Royal Inn Lodge on the National Highway at Hungund in Bagalkote district. The operation was carried out as part of the Mangaluru police's ongoing "Drug-Free Mangaluru" campaign.
Giving details about the operation, City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said that the arrested have been identified as Mohammed Alfaz (28) of Indabettu village in Belthangady taluk and Mohammed Mustafa (28) of Laila village near Ujire in Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada district.
Police said they recovered 5.196 kg of MDMA, besides bags and mobile phones. The seized narcotic is estimated to be worth about Rs 5.20 crore.
The breakthrough came during the investigation of an earlier drug case registered at Surathkal Police Station.
On June 25, 2026, acting on credible information that narcotic drugs were being sold from a house near the Kulai Gudde Water Tank in the Surathkal police limits, the Mangaluru CCB raided the premises and arrested Annappa Swamy alias Manu. Police seized 15.17 grams of MDMA, valued at approximately Rs 1.5 lakh, from his possession. A case was registered at Surathkal Police Station and an investigation was launched to identify the source of the drugs.
During the investigation, CCB officers gathered intelligence on the drug supply network and traced the suppliers. They received specific information that the suppliers had purchased MDMA in Delhi and were travelling towards Bengaluru with the contraband.
Acting on this information, a police team tracked them to Bagalkote district and intercepted them during the raid.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused allegedly procured MDMA from Delhi and transported it by car to Bengaluru, from where it was supplied to peddlers in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and several parts of Kerala.
Police suspect that several others are part of the drug trafficking network and said efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the remaining members involved in the racket.
Police said Mohammed Alfaz had earlier been booked in an MDMA-related case at Konaje Police Station in 2024 and another at Urwa Police Station earlier this year.
