Three Die In Separate Lightning Strike Incidents

In Uttara Kannada district, a fisherman died after lightning struck near Apsarakonda coast in Honnavar on Saturday evening. The deceased was identified as Vinayak Kharvi, a local fisherman who had ventured into the sea in a traditional fishing boat.

According to sources, lightning struck the coastal area during heavy rain and thunderstorms, killing Vinayak on the spot.

In an incident reported from Komalapur village in Lingasugur taluk of Raichur district on Sunday, a man died and another sustained serious injury after lightning struck them while they were loading fertiliser into a tractor.

The deceased has been identified as Kariyappa Gennakihal (45), while the injured person is Basavaraj.

Sources said the duo was engaged in agricultural work in the village when lightning suddenly struck the area. Kariyappa suffered severe injuries and died on the spot, while Basavaraj sustained injuries and was shifted to hospital for treatment.

A case has been registered at Mudgal Police Station.

In Dharwad district, a 29-year-old woman died after lightning struck an agricultural field at Kavalageri village on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Jayashree Hanamantappa Shirasangi. Her husband, Hanamantappa Shirasangi (31), sustained minor injuries in the incident.

According to sources, the couple had gone to harvest fenugreek in their field when lightning struck suddenly. Jayashree died on the spot, while her husband escaped with minor injuries.

The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital for postmortem examination. Dharwad Tahsildar visited the hospital.

Meanwhile on Sunday evening three cattle belonging to a farmer died after lightning struck. The incident occurred at Mangalwad village in Haliyal taluk of Uttara Kannada district.
Two oxen and a cow were killed in the lightning strike.
