Yadgir/Kalaburagi: A supporter of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah allegedly attempted to consume poison during a protest held at Subhash Circle in Yadgir city on Thursday, demanding that the Congress high command should not seek the resignation of the chief minister.

The protest was organised under the banner of Siddaramaiah Abhimani Balaga, with supporters raising slogans against the Congress high command including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. They urged the party leadership to allow Siddaramaiah to continue as chief minister.

According to sources, one of the supporters allegedly removed a bottle from his pocket and tried to consume poison during the demonstration. Fellow protesters immediately intervened and stopped him.

The protestors warned of serious political consequences if Siddaramaiah was removed from the post and alleged that loyal Congress workers and supporters would be deeply hurt by such a decision.

Meanwhile, leaders of the Karnataka Pradesha Kuruba Sangha staged a protest at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Circle in Kalaburagi expressing displeasure over the speculation surrounding Siddaramaiah’s continuation as chief minister.

Kuruba Sangha leaders warned that any move to replace Siddaramaiah could adversely affect the Congress in the upcoming elections. Drawing parallels with the decline of the JD(S) after Siddaramaiah’s exit from the party years ago, they claimed the Congress too could face a setback if he was removed from the top post.

Karnataka Pradesh Kuruba Sangha district president Gurunath Poojary questioned the rationale behind replacing Siddaramaiah and claimed that a majority of AHINDA community voters had supported the Congress believing Siddaramaiah would be the chief minister.
