Belagavi: The CCB police in Belagavi city arrested a 21-year-old man and seized heroin worth Rs 3.28 lakh during a raid conducted near Mutaga-Shindolli road on Wedesday night, police said on Thursday.
The arrested accused has been identified as Sameer Mohammad Sharif Mulla, a resident of Janata Plot in Shindolli, Belagavi.
According to police, the accused was allegedly selling heroin near roadside bushes when the CCB team raided the spot under the guidance of Police Inspector Manjunath Nayak. The operation was led by PSI Manjunath Bhajantri along with CCB personnel.
Police said they seized 16.40 grams of heroin valued at Rs 3.28 lakh from the accused. A mobile phone worth Rs 5,000 and cash of Rs 220 were also recovered.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly told police that he had procured the heroin from a woman identified as Savanti Amma of Sain Koliwada in Mumbai.
Marihal police have registered a case against two persons under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act, 1985. Further investigation is underway.
Belagavi City Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase has appreciated the CCB team for the successful operation.
