Portion Of Earth Caves In, Kills Two In Bengaluru City

The BDA Chairman N.A. Haris, MLA representing Shantinagar Assembly seat in Bengaluru city, ordered an independent enquiry into the incident to find out the cause of the accident.

BENGALURU: Two persons working at an underpass construction site at the BDA Kanteerava Studio in Bengaluru city died after a portion of the earth at the construction site caved in, besides, 3 other labourers were injured. The underpass is executed by PJB Engineers Private Limited at the site on turnkey basis and appointed a contractor for its project.

Police gave the names of the deceased as Sonaram from Odisha and Parimal Baashak from West Bengaluru while Sadanand from Jharkhand, Imrias from Chhattisgarh and Sunil Kalkor from Jharkhand were the injured and they were treated at a hospital. The incident is said to have occurred at around 10.45 am.

The BDA Chairman N.A. Haris, MLA representing Shantinagar Assembly seat in Bengaluru city, ordered an independent enquiry into the incident to find out the cause of the accident. A Committee headed by a retired Judge and a retired Chief Engineer will be constituted to probe the case and they will be asked to submit a report within 45-days.

BDA assured to provide Rs 8 lakh each to the bereaved families and bear the medical expenses of the injured persons treated at a hospital in Bengaluru city. Steps have been initiated by officials concerned to send mortal remains of the deceased persons to their native places. Officials are in coordination with the Labour department and District Administration to send the bodies of the deceased labourers.
