Police Search Udupi Court Complex After Bomb Threat Email
Udupi Sub-Divisional Police Officer Belliyappa, Town Police Inspector Mahesh Prasad, and PSI Bharatesh Kankanwadi rushed to the court complex and initiated security checks.
Udupi: Police conducted a thorough search of the Udupi district court complex on Monday following a bomb threat email, which was later found to be a hoax.
According to police, the court's Chief Administrative Officer noticed an email on the official account on Monday morning that had been received the previous (Sunday) evening. When the email was opened, it contained a message in English claiming that a bomb had been planted.
The matter was immediately brought to the notice of the police.
Udupi Sub-Divisional Police Officer Belliyappa, Town Police Inspector Mahesh Prasad, and PSI Bharatesh Kankanwadi rushed to the court complex and initiated security checks. Bomb disposal personnel and a dog squad were also deployed.
Court halls, chambers, offices, and washrooms within the complex were checked along with the surrounding premises. After completing the inspection, police concluded that the email was a suspected hoax bomb threat, as no explosive material or suspicious object was found.
The authorities concluded that the threat was a hoax and allowed court proceedings to continue.
A case has been registered at Udupi Town Police Station against the unidentified sender of the hoax bomb email under sections 351(4) and 353(1)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigation is in progress.
