Lab Engaged in Issuing Fake Environment Compliance Reports Inspected in Bengaluru, Notice Served
As per Ministry of Environment and Forests guidelines, qualified analysts are required but the Lad had no mandated qualified analysts present at the site.
Bengaluru:Minister of Forests, Ecology and Environment Ramalinga Reddy led a surprise inspection on ‘Bangalore Analytical Research Centre’ in Thanisandra of Bengaluru on Saturday and detected key violations by the Lab such as issuing environment compliance reports to over 138 companies without conducting actual tests.
Taking note of the violations during the inspection, Ramalinga Reddy directed officials to serve notice on the Lab and initiate a detailed investigation into its functioning.
The surprise inspection by Ramalinga Reddy was along with officials concerned from the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB). It has come to the notice of the Minister that more than 50 such labs are functioning in Bengaluru and engaged in issuing fake environment compliance reports and Reddy asked officials concerned to closely monitor and initiate decisive and uncompromising action against such fake compliance reports issuing labs.
However, the key violations taken note at the ‘Bengaluru Analytical Research Centre,’ Minister Ramalinga Reddy stated the Lab continued to operate despite an expired license and without necessary renewals and absence of qualified experts at the Lab.
As per Ministry of Environment and Forests guidelines, qualified analysts are required but the Lad had no mandated qualified analysts present at the site. The Lab was found directly discharging untreated, contaminated wastewater from the Lab into a pit.
