800 Child Labourers Rescued In Karnataka During A Special Ongoing Drive

BENGALURU: Bengaluru city accounted for more employing child labourers in Karnataka reporting as many as 503 child labourers rescued by police officials/personnel as on Saturday while action against 18 accused persons has been initiated. In all, Karnataka recorded 800 child labourers rescued cases in a special drive conducted to unearth child labourers. The rescued 16 child labourers in Chikkaballapura were handed over to respective parents.
In some cases, notices have been served on the accused persons and in some other cases, First Information Reports have been registered under respective police station limits. The rescued child labourers have been handed over to the Child Welfare Committees and some returned to their parents.
It all began with Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar held an inspection at Yeshwanthpur APMC yard a couple of days ago and directed officials concerned to act against persons employing child labourers. Then, police officials rescued 13 child labourers including a female.
In Bengaluru, 188 police stations officials/personnel checked at 5897 premises and have rescued 503 child labourers and 72 child labourers have been rescued in Vijayapura district where police officials have served notices on 25 accused and registered 3 First Information Reports (FIRs). Two FIRs were registered in Kodagu against accused persons over employing children as labourers.
33 children employed as labourers have been rescued in Tumakuru. Here, notices have been served on accused persons while rescued children have been handed over to the Child Welfare Committee. 27 child labourers have been rescued in Koppal district so far from 95 premises checked by the police officials under 14 police stations of the district. Notices have been slapped against the accused persons over employing child labourers.
Kalaburagi city reported 22 child labourers rescued cases, 15 rescued cases in Ballari, 13 in Mysuru city and 10 cases of child labourers rescued in Hubballi-Dharwad. Kolar Gold Fields, Mysuru district, Hassan, Mandya, Davangere, Shivamogga, Karwar, Gadag, Chikkamagaluru and Kalaburagi district reported nil child labourers during the inspections.
Udupi reported 2 rescued cases, Haveri -2 cases, Dakshina Kannada reported 2 rescued cases, 12 in Belagavi, 8 cases each in Bidar and Bagalkot, Vijayanagar reported 4 rescued cases and Yadgir reported 3 rescued cases.
