Kalaburagi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday called for the dissolution of legislatures and demanded fresh elections through ballot papers, while raising concerns over the electoral process in the context of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and referring to alleged irregularities in elections.

Speaking to the media in Kalaburagi, Kharge spoke about the SIR and referred to concerns he said had been raised by two members of the Election Commission over the electoral process and the role of the IT department.

“As they have agreed to this, all elections are illegal. Legally there should be fresh elections. Wherever such incidents had occurred, the existing governments should be dissolved and fresh elections held through ballot papers,” he said.

“EVM is cheating and destroying the country's democracy. Thus elections should be held on ballot paper. This will ensure free and fair elections,” he added.

Kharge said the INDIA bloc had decided to intensify its campaign against the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He said a series of programmes would be held across the country in the coming months.
