Karnataka: Udupi Police Continue Special Checks Of School Vehicles, Road Safety Drive

The drive, held from July 20 to July 27, focused on checking compliance with safety norms and government guidelines governing student transportation. The police checked 204 buses, 69 minibuses, 65 autorickshaws, and 33 cars used to ferry students.

During the inspections, police found 29 vehicles carrying more children than their permitted capacity and 5 vehicles operated by drivers without prescribed uniforms. Apart from these, 43 other traffic violations were detected. Cases were registered against the vehicles concerned, and a total penalty of Rs 30,800 was collected.

As part of the awareness initiative, police teams also visited schools and colleges across the district and inspected 295 buses, 69 mini-buses, 34 cars and other vehicles.

The teams verified vehicle documents, availability of safety equipment and adherence to mandatory safety measures.

Drivers and conductors were advised to strictly follow safety regulations while transporting students. They were also sensitised about road safety measures, safe driving practices, traffic rules and their responsibility in ensuring the safe commute of children.

The Udupi district police said that similar inspection drives will be carried out regularly.
