Karnataka: Farmer Couple Dies By Suicide In Mandya

BENGALURU: A farmer couple identified as Puttaswamy and Nagamma allegedly committed suicide by hanging to a tree at Hatna Beukallu village of Pandavapura taluk of Mandya on Friday and the couple of under severe financial problems is said to have taken the extreme step to end their lives. It is said the couple owned about 5 acres and cultivated vegetables but suffered financial losses and were trapped in debt of about Rs 15 lakh.

State Bharatiya Janata Party president and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra stated the couple found themselves in deep trouble and were unable to repay the loans and termed the couple of alleged suicide a “unfortunate” incident. Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy condoled the death of the farmer couple and consoled the kith and kin of the deceased.

Kumaraswamy asked the State Government to initiate steps to instil confidence among farmers.
