Gandhi, Temple, War Memorial And A Bus Ride: DKS Takes Cabinet On A City Tour

Mangaluru: Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s schedule ahead of Friday’s Cabinet meeting in Mangaluru took him from a place associated with Mahatma Gandhi to the Kadri temple and the War Memorial, before he and his ministers took an open-top bus through the city.

In the morning, Shivakumar’s first programme was a breakfast interaction with social media influencers at Gandhi Square Cafe. The cafe is located near the historic site associated with Mahatma Gandhi’s visit to Mangaluru in 1934.

“I went to the house where Gandhi stayed and had breakfast there. I had Mangaluru buns and dosa. I will go wherever the district ministers take me,” Shivakumar told reporters.

He then visited the Kadri Sri Manjunatha Temple along with his Cabinet colleagues and offered prayers. He then paid floral tributes at the War Memorial near the Circuit House, where Minister UT Khader and retired servicemen were present.

After the floral tribute, the Chief Minister and the ministers boarded the open bus.

Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and several ministers travelled from the War Memorial near the Circuit House to Praja Soudha in an open-top Ambari bus, covering around 5 km through Nanthoor, Pumpwell and Nagori.

Ministers UT Khader, Narendra Swamy, Vijayanand Kashappanavar, Zameer Ahmed Khan, Ajay Singh, Shivaraj Tangadagi, KJ George, Priyank Kharge, Shivalinge Gowda and Sharan Prakash Patil were among those who travelled on the bus.

Despite the hot and sunny weather, many of the ministers, wearing white caps, stood on the open bus and waved to people along the route as artistes performed at several points.

As the bus came near Sri Brahma Baidarkala Garodi temple, Shivakumar bowed with folded hands.

People also gathered along the route, eager to catch a glimpse of the ministers travelling together on the bus.

At four to five places along the route, stages had been put up for performances as the bus passed. Tulu songs, and other local art forms were presented by artistes.

At Pumpwell, the welcome came with ‘ambade,’ and lime juice, which were distributed to people gathered there.

Several other ministers joined the Cabinet meeting directly at the DC office.
