BENGALURU: The gap between former Janata Dal Secular (JDS) MLA K. Mahadev and his son P.M. Prasanna widened politically after the taluk unit of the party served a notice on the latter over his reported anti-party activities. Prasanna has been asked to reply to the notice in 7-days and failing will result in the party initiating disciplinary action against him.

It is said both father and son are engaged in cold war having set their eyes on the 2028 election from Periyapatna seat. Sources in Periyapatna told Deccan Chronicle on Friday things turned sour between Mahadev and his son Prasanna after the 2023 Assembly election in which Mahadev lost to the Congress nominee by about 20,000 votes.

Prasanna felt that it would have been better had he contested the 2023 election instead of his father and set his eyes on the 2028 election. But, Mahadev reportedly is in no mood to make way for his son Prasanna to contest in the 2028 election from Periyapatna seat.

Sources said Prasanna feels his chance of winning the 2028 election from the seat is far better than his father and alleged that Prasanna has been pitted against his father by some of his followers.

Regarding reported anti-party activities by his son, former MLA Mahadev, represented Periyapatna Assembly seat in Mysuru district (2018-2023), accused Prasanna of diverting party men in the seat without holding any position in JDS either at taluk, district or State level.

Mahadev on Thursday accused his son of misleading party workers falsely stating to them that he has been acting as per the orders of State JDS president H.D. Kumarswamy.

The differences between father and son took a serious turn in September when Prasanna, a former president of Mysuru Milk Union Limited (MYMUL), went ahead with his planned padayatra (march) from Bettadapura to Periyapatna town in the seat demanding steps from the State Government to declare Periyapatna taluk a “drought-hit” taluk which was against the wishes of the party.

Mahadev stated the party held a demonstration to mount pressure on the State Government to declare the taluk as “drought-hit” and also filling up of tanks. Even then, Prasanna for his personal gains organised a separate padayatra against the wishes of the party to get a notice served on him.
