Dissolve Assembly Before People Revolt, Vijayendra Tells DK Shivakumar

Ballari: BJP state president BY Vijayendra on Tuesday asked Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to dissolve the Legislative Assembly before people “revolt” against the government, alleging that farmers and the poor had lost confidence in the Congress government.

“Before the people revolt, dissolve the Assembly respectfully. Let us go to the people and let the government of whoever receives their blessing run the state,” Vijayendra said while addressing the BJP’s padayatra at Kudatini in Ballari district.

He said farmers and poor people in the state had reached a stage where they could revolt against the government. “If you feel you are not capable of running the government, dissolve the Assembly and go for elections,” he said.

“Chief Minister, time has run out and is running out. You have completely lost the confidence of the people. It is not important how many days you remain Chief Minister or how long you sit in that chair. What is important is that, while you are in office, you should do good work for the poor, farmers and youth,” he added.

Vijayendra said the BJP’s agitation was receiving considerable public support, with farmers, labourers and women from across the state joining the padayatra. Several party leaders were also strengthening the agitation.

He accused the Congress government of trying to suppress the BJP’s agitation. He alleged that power supply was cut when the BJP padayatra reached the area recently, following pressure from the local MLA.

Referring to the BJP’s proposed concluding programme in Ballari, Vijayendra said senior party leaders, including former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, would attend the convention.

He alleged that pressure had been put on the Deputy Commissioner not to provide a venue for the programme. The BJP had asserted to continue its agitation in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office if permission was denied.

“Later, bowing to our agitation and pressure, they gave us permission this evening. A massive convention will be held in Ballari the day after tomorrow,” he declared.
