Dakshina Kannada Declares Holiday for schools, PU Colleges on July 3 Amid Orange Alert
Schools and PU colleges remained closed on Thursday after the district administration declared a holiday on Wednesday evening following the IMD's Red Alert.
Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district administration declared a holiday for all schools, PU colleges and anganwadi centres on July 3 as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) declared Orange Alert for the coastal district. The rainfall remained largely moderate across most parts of the region on Thursday.
The holiday applies to all government, aided and private schools, residential schools, anganwadi centres and Pre-University colleges up to Class 12. The District Disaster Management Authority directed educational institutions not to conduct classes and warned that any violation of the order would invite action under the Disaster Management Act, 2005.

Meanwhile, in neighbouring Uttara Kannada district, the Block Education Officer declared a holiday for all primary and high schools in Karwar taluk on Thursday after heavy rain lashed the area during the morning.
Rains in Uttara Kannada also triggered a mudslide on the National Highway near Honnavar, briefly affecting traffic.
While weather alerts remained in force and educational institutions remained closed, Dakshina Kannada witnessed only light to moderate rainfall on Thursday. Some parts of the district even experienced a few hours of sunshine in the afternoon. No major rain-related damage was reported.
