BENGALURU: A separate department ‘Praja Seve’ (Public Service) will come into existence in Karnataka which will be headed by a Minister soon to attend public grievances and to render justice to their pleas as much as possible, stated Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar in Bengaluru on Saturday after the cabinet meeting.

The Legal Cell functioning in New Delhi will be strengthened and a separate programme will be framed for it. The strengthening of the Legal Cell is aimed at taking cases related to Karnataka to the Supreme Court more effectively.

Briefing reporters after his second cabinet meeting, Shivakumar said “Many complaints regarding problems being faced by people are brought to the notice of district in charge ministers/Chief Minister/ protesters through submission of memorandums to bring to the notice of officials concerned expressing their feelings/problems. But remedial measures are of vital importance as well.”

On the structure of the new Ministry coming into existence, the Chief Minister said the Public Service Ministry will have an IAS officer, officers among others to scrutinize the complaints and render justice to them.

He said district in charge ministers will have the task to compulsorily visit every taluk/assembly segment once in a week and hold public contact programmes in presence of concerned MLAs. The grievances received from the public at the public contact programmes will be referred to the Ministry of Public Service to address the problems through proper channels.

Shivakumar said he is unhappy over the Residential Commissioner in New Delhi and the Chief Minister felt the need to reorganize the Residential Commissioner’s office. “A new set-up,” stressed the Chief Minister to handle matters related to projects in Karnataka with the Union Government and also gather details on schemes going to other States such as Tamil Nadu, Gujarat among others.
