BC Road Murder Accused Sent To Four-Day Police Custody
Lavanya, a resident of Uligrama in Bantwal taluk, was hacked to death while waiting for a bus at the KSRTC New Bus Stand in BC Road.
Mangaluru: The Bantwal police on Tuesday formally arrested the accused in the murder of a 21-year-old woman at the KSRTC New Bus Stand in BC Road after he was discharged from hospital. A local court has remanded him to four days of police custody for further investigation.
The accused, Chethan (22), had been undergoing treatment after allegedly consuming rat poison following the murder of Lavanya on July 16. He was taken into custody immediately after being discharged from the hospital and produced before the jurisdictional court, which granted police custody till August 1.

According to the police, Chethan, a distant relative of the victim and a resident of Odilnala village in Belthangady taluk, was traced by a special police team. He disclosed that he had consumed rat poison and was shifted to a government hospital for treatment. Police suspect the murder was the result of the accused's alleged one-sided affection towards the victim. The investigation is continuing.
