Advocate Urges Burial Sites Be Shifted out of NSD Bengaluru Campus
The advocate said the Kala Grama is purely meant for the development and training of Kannada and Culture, drama activities but 4-5 personalities are buried/cremated at the Kala Grama despite opposition from a section of the society
Bengaluru: A Bengaluru based advocate Amruthesh. N. P., on Wednesday demanded shifting of burial places of well-known writers Dr U.R. Anantha Murthy, K. Shivarudrappa, Dr Siddalingaiah and environmentalist “Salumarada” Thimmakka from the premises of Kala Grama (Art Village) set-up funding from the National School of Drama, Government of India and Government of Karnataka at Jnanabharathi campus, Bengaluru.
The advocate said the Kala Grama is purely meant for the development and training of Kannada and Culture, drama activities but 4-5 personalities are buried/cremated at the Kala Grama despite opposition from a section of the society.
In a notice served on Minister of Kannada and Culture, the advocate stated the State Government itself banned, prohibited and passed the order ‘no cremation activities’ are going to be allowed at the Kala Grama, Nagarabhavi, Kengeri of Bengaluru. Yet, in November last, environmentalist “Salumarada” Thimmakka’s body was allowed to be cremated/buried at the Kala Grama premises knowing fully well the order was in force.
He expressed fears that in future followers of poets/artists/Jnanapeetha awardees/iconic personalities demand a place at the Kala Grama for conducting final rites and such incidents will lead to misuse of Government land.
“If the State Government is granting permission without sticking to safeguard the Government land, the very purpose of establishment of Kala Grama will be defeated,” said the advocate and he pointed to the burial place of noted Kannada actor Dr Vishnuvardhan shifted from Bengaluru to Mysuru.
