Hosapete: The Karnataka government’s ambitious Praja Seva Abhiyana will be officially launched at Kudligi in Vijayanagara district on September 5.

According to district in-charge minister KS Basavanthappa Chief Minister DK Shivakumar will inaugurate the state-level programme, which will be attended by several Cabinet ministers and elected representatives from the district.

Addressing a preparatory meeting in Kudligi, Basavanthappa said Praja Seva was aimed at taking the government and administrative machinery to people’s doorsteps to provide services and address their grievances.

“This is not merely a publicity exercise. It is an innovative system through which the government and administration reach the people’s doorstep and respond to their problems,” he said.

He said a separate administrative mechanism had been created for implementing the campaign, extending from the Chief Secretary level to district and taluk levels.

The programme will begin at 9 am on September 5, with separate counters for gram panchayats and government departments to receive applications and provide speedy solutions at the venue itself.

Basavanthappa said it was a matter of pride that the state-level programme was being launched from Kudligi, a relatively backward taluk with a large population dependent on agriculture and daily wage labour. He said several development programmes would be brought to the region in the coming days.
