Karnataka Proposes IVF Facilities In Five Government Hospitals
The proposed facilities are expected to provide IVF treatment at a lower cost than private hospitals, where the procedure can cost around Rs 3 lakh.
Mangaluru: The Karnataka Government has proposed to introduce in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) facilities in five government hospitals across the State, including Bengaluru and Mangaluru, to make fertility treatment more affordable, Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader said on Saturday.
Speaking to reporters in Mangaluru, Khader said that the estimated cost of an IVF facility in each of the five hospitals would cost around Rs 5 crore.
“A committee comprising experts and officials from the Health Department is working on the proposal, which will be finalised shortly,” he said.
The proposed facilities are expected to provide IVF treatment at a lower cost than private hospitals, where the procedure can cost around Rs 3 lakh.
Under the AB-ARK government health insurance scheme, IVF treatment is covered at Rs 60,000. However, not many private hospitals are willing to offer the procedure under the scheme.
