YSRC, TD Trade Charges Over Kakumanu Rajasekhar’s Death

TIRUPATI: The YSRC and Telugu Desam (TD) traded charges on Friday over the death of former LIDCAP chairman and YSRC state campaign committee president Kakumanu Rajasekhar.
YSRC parliamentary party leader Y.V. Subba Reddy and state coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy paid their respects to Rajasekhar’s mortal remains at his native Ongole and consoled his family members.
The YSRC leaders alleged that Rajasekhar fell two or three times during a September 22 protest at the SAAP office in Vijayawada against alleged irregularities in the DSC recruitment process, causing him physical and mental stress.
They further alleged that he came under pressure after police cases were registered against him following his return to Ongole. Rajasekhar later travelled to Hyderabad for medical treatment but died shortly after reaching the city, they said.
The YSRC leaders attributed his death to the developments following the protest and described his demise as a loss to the party.
Social welfare minister Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy rejected the allegations and questioned why Rajasekhar was not immediately admitted to a hospital if he had been assaulted by police. He accused the YSRC of using the death for political purposes.
The minister urged YSRC leaders to support the bereaved family instead of making allegations against the government. He expressed condolences to Rajasekhar’s family and said his death was unfortunate.
