Police placed YSRC leaders, including former minister and party district president Kakani Govardhan Reddy, former MLA Nallapareddy Prasannakumar Reddy and MLC Parvatha Reddy Chandrasekhar Reddy, under house arrest on Thursday and served them notices barring them from participating in the MPTC and ZPTC nomination process.

Reacting to the action, Govardhan Redd, accused the coalition government of suppressing democratic rights and alleged that the police were favouring the ruling TD by preventing opposition candidates from filing nominations. He claimed that YSRC candidates were being obstructed, nomination papers torn and false cases filed at several places.

Citing alleged incidents in Gudur, Sullurupeta and other areas, Govardhan Reddy demanded an impartial inquiry into the alleged attacks and irregularities, action against those responsible and another opportunity for candidates whose nominations had been unfairly rejected or whose papers had been destroyed.

He appealed to district collectors and superintendents of police to ensure that candidates could file nominations freely and that the elections were conducted fairly. He warned that the party would continue its protest until all its candidates were allowed to submit their nominations.
