Women residents of K. Kotapadu village in Kotapadu mandal staged a protest near a water tank on Wednesday, demanding immediate restoration of drinking water supply to their locality.

Residents alleged that around 100 families had been facing a shortage for the past four days following repairs to a borewell connected to the water tank at the MPP elementary school. Households depend on tap connections provided under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

The protesters said they had been relying on hand pumps and borewells in neighbouring areas to meet their daily needs. They said the shortage had disrupted cooking, bathing and access to drinking water, while several women were spending considerable time fetching water.

Led by Parvathy Devudamma, the women gathered near the water tank and urged authorities to resolve the issue. CPM district executive member K. Govinda Rao supported the protest and called on officials to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply to the village.

The protesters later raised the issue with the panchayat secretary. Devudamma said the official assured them that steps would be taken to restore the water supply at the earliest.

Residents warned that they would intensify their agitation if the problem remained unresolved and demanded immediate action to restore drinking water supply.
