Vijayawada Set For 10-Day Festival Celebrations
The Saras Mela will be held at Punnami Ghat from October 13 to 30: Reports
VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada is set for a 10-day festival period with the Saras Mela, Dasara Sharannavaratri celebrations and Vijayawada Utsav 2.0 being held around the same time, MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni) said on Wednesday.
The Saras Mela will be held at Punnami Ghat from October 13 to 30 across nearly 18 acres, with President Droupadi Murmu expected to attend on October 15. Around 650 stalls showcasing products made by women’s self-help groups from across the country and nearly 2,500 participants are expected. A food festival featuring traditional cuisine from different states will also be held.
Chinni said the events would showcase Vijayawada’s cultural and spiritual heritage and urged residents, businesses, transport operators and various associations to make the celebrations a collective effort. He appealed to citizens to decorate their homes and commercial establishments to welcome visitors.
Vijayawada Utsav 2.0 will feature competitions in more than 50 categories for children and youth, besides live kabaddi and volleyball events. Transport associations are promoting the festival by displaying stickers on vehicles.
The MP also invited ministers and urged BC associations and other organisations to participate, with the aim of making the celebrations comparable in scale to Mysuru Dasara.
