Vijayawada: AP State Haj Committee conducted interviews on Wednesday for 78 government employees from various departments in Andhra Pradesh who have been shortlisted for temporary deployment as State Haj Inspectors (SHIs), who will cater to the various needs of pilgrims from AP during Haj 2027.

As per directives of the Central Haj Committee of India, AP State Haj Committee chairman Haji Shaik Hasan Basha and executive officer Abdul Qadir conducted the interviews at the CEDM office at Vaddeswaram village in Mangalagiri mandal.

Of the 78 candidates, the Central Haj Committee will select 19 candidates based on the marks given to them, based on various criteria during the selection process.

Principal Secretary (Minorities Welfare) CH Sridhar and Waqf Board CEO Yakub Basha attended the selection procedure. They urged the prospective Haj service personnel to serve pilgrims as facilitators rather than approach their duties as government officials, upholding the reputation of the government in the process.

The state government has announced financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to every Haj pilgrim departing from the Vijayawada embarkation point. The centre has approved Vijayawada as an official embarkation point.

Haj Committee members Baba Fakruddin, Mansoor Ali Khan, Shaik Hussain, and Shaik Abid, besides the committee staff, attended the programme.
