VMRDA Plans Cycling Tracks in Parks, Sets August Deadline for Civic Works

Visakhapatnam: The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) has decided to develop cycling tracks in all VMRDA-owned parks within Visakhapatnam city limits as part of efforts to improve recreational infrastructure.

The decision was taken at a review meeting chaired by VMRDA chairman M.V. Pranav Gopal and metropolitan commissioner N. Tej Bharat with engineering officials at the VMRDA conference hall on Thursday.

Officials from the municipalities of Narsipatnam, Nellimarla and Yelamanchili, along with representatives of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), National Highways and Roads and Buildings departments, participated in the review of VMRDA-funded development works.

The chairman and commissioner said VMRDA plays a key role in municipal infrastructure development through funding support for roads, drains, community buildings, culverts and streetlights. They directed officials to complete all pending works by August.

They also announced plans to develop model parks with modern amenities on the lines of VUDA Park in municipalities that can provide suitable land. Priority is being given to infrastructure development across constituencies, with `90 crore allocated during the current financial year.

The officials directed coordination with Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) authorities for the proposed Sports Village at Gajuwaka. Proposals are also being prepared to develop Dayal Nagar Hill on the lines of Kailasagiri.

The meeting further directed officials to repair walking tracks, install benches in parks and improve greenery along medians on master plan roads.

Chief engineer Vinay Kumar, OSD Krishna Naik, superintending engineers Madhu and Rambabu, executive engineers Sudheer, Durga Prasad, Ramaraju and Varun Karthik, along with JCPs Singh and Viswanath, attended the meeting. Municipal commissioners and officials from Vizianagaram, Narsipatnam, Yelamanchili and Nellimarla participated virtually.
