VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra on Tuesday directed officials to ensure uninterrupted potable water supply and adequate amenities at Anna Canteens, while insisting on maintaining high standards of food quality, hygiene and cleanliness.

During an inspection of the Anna Canteen near Gandhiji Mahila Kalasala in One Town, he reviewed food quality, kitchen sanitation and drinking water facilities. He instructed officials to closely monitor canteen operations and promptly address public grievances.

Reviewing reports from surprise inspections conducted by Fire Department officials at several commercial establishments, including Swarna Heights, Khazana Jewellers, Hotel Haiyan and Swarna Palace, the commissioner noted deficiencies such as non-functional firefighting equipment and the absence of mandatory safety systems. Advisory notices were issued to the managements concerned.

Dhyanachandra warned that strict action, including cancellation of trade licences, would be taken against establishments violating fire safety norms. He also inspected sanitation and drain-cleaning works across the city and directed officials to intensify pre-monsoon cleanliness measures.
