Vizianagaram district collector S. Ramsundar Reddy has imposed restrictions on firecracker sales ahead of Diwali and the local body elections, warning that violations would lead to licence cancellation and criminal action.

He said firecracker sales in the district must be conducted only through authorised wholesale licensees. Retail sales from wholesale premises are prohibited.

Wholesale traders must follow government and fire department safety guidelines and take precautions to prevent fires and other accidents during the storage and sale of firecrackers.

The collector warned that traders selling firecrackers at retail from wholesale premises or violating permit conditions would face immediate cancellation of their trade and explosives licences. Criminal action would also be initiated under the Explosives Act and Rules.

Citing public safety and the need to maintain law and order, he urged traders to comply with the regulations and cooperate with officials during inspections.
