Visakhapatnam: Termite-Damaged Currency Notes Dumped on Road
Police confirmed that Surya Rao had dumped the notes opposite Central Park on Tuesday evening.
Visakhapatnam: Torn currency notes scattered on a road near Central Park in Visakhapatnam triggered curiosity among locals and morning walkers on Wednesday.
Two Town police, led by circle inspector Appala Naidu, rushed to the spot, seized the notes and launched an inquiry. CCTV footage helped police trace the source of the discarded currency.
The investigation revealed that Adimulam Surya Rao, a resident of Tadivithi in the KGH area, had thrown away the notes, in denominations of `50, `20 and `10. Surya Rao, who supplies goods to grocery stores, told police that he had kept cash and LIC receipts in a cardboard box at his home.
The money was subsequently infested with termites. Fearing family disputes if the damage came to light, he decided to dispose of the notes discreetly.
Police confirmed that Surya Rao had dumped the notes opposite Central Park on Tuesday evening. On Wednesday afternoon, CI Appala Naidu returned the torn currency, along with LIC receipts and a PAN card, to Surya Rao. Police said the damaged notes were worth around `3,000 but were unfit for circulation.
