Naidu to Launch ₹1,838-Crore Water Projects in Vizag

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will visit Visakhapatnam on September 19 to participate in development and welfare programmes, distribute house-site pattas to the poor and launch five water supply and infrastructure projects worth `1,838 crore.

GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg said in a statement on Wednesday that foundation stones would be laid for four of the projects, while the fifth would be inaugurated.

The `725-crore 24/7 water supply project in Madhurawada Zone and adjoining areas will be taken up under the Urban Challenge Fund (UCF). Another UCF project, costing `117 crore, will improve bulk and semi-bulk water supply connections through advanced metering, automation and SCADA technology.

Under AMRUT 2.0, a `150-crore industrial water supply pipeline will be developed through a public-private partnership, connecting the Narava Water Treatment Plant with HPCL and other industries along Port Road. Five water supply works and two sewerage works worth `400 crore will also be taken up under the scheme.

Naidu will inaugurate the `446-crore Non-Revenue Water Reduction and 24/7 Water Supply project in GVMC’s North-West Sector, aimed at reducing leakages and improving the efficiency of the water supply system.

Garg said the projects were part of a long-term plan to modernise the city’s water supply system and ensure reliable services for residents and industries.
