VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada POCSO court has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined him ₹10,000 for raping a minor girl under Machavaram police station limits of the city in 2015.
Pronouncing the judgment on Tuesday, Judge V. Bhavani ordered the district legal cell authority to pay the victim ₹4 lakh, apart from 50 per cent of the fine amount – ₹5,000 – as compensation.
According to police, convict Mahindra, 21, alias Pothina Nani, picked up the minor girl from her grandmother’s house in Moghalrajpuram on October 19, 2015, on the pretext of marrying her. He instead took her to Machilipatnam and raped her.
Based on a complaint by the victim’s family, Machavaram police filed a case under Section 363, 376(2)(N) of IPC and Section 6 r/w 5(L) of POCSO Act against the accused on October 19, 2015, leading to his conviction.
