Vijayawada: In a first for Indian Railways, the Vijayawada Division of South Coast Railway (SCoR) has developed and launched 'Punctuality BZA', an Android-based mobile application for real-time monitoring of coaching train punctuality.

Developed entirely in-house, the mobile application enables railway operating officers and controllers to monitor train movements from anywhere, reducing dependence on desktop-based systems. The app overcomes the limitations of the conventional ICMS web portal, which requires multiple navigation steps and repeated OTP-based authentication.

The platform brings together key operational information on a single dashboard, including section-wise train status, Late Train Monitoring (LTM), Punctuality Assessment Module (PAM) statistics, identification of delayed trains and automated alerts whenever a train is delayed by more than 15 minutes. Railway officials said the application improves situational awareness, enables quicker decision-making and facilitates timely corrective measures to enhance punctuality.

To further strengthen digital train management, Punctuality BZA has been integrated with LTM BZA (Late Train Monitoring System), another in-house application developed by the division to automate train run documentation for Train Managers.

Using GPS-enabled technology, LTM BZA automatically records train arrivals, departures, speed and movement data, while generating detention reports and late-train summaries. Train Managers can instantly record reasons for detentions through the application, enabling controllers to analyse delays in real time and initiate prompt corrective action.

Officials said the automation significantly reduces paperwork, allowing Train Managers to focus on safety-critical responsibilities, including passenger safety, station operations and operational preparedness.

Divisional railway manager Mohit Sonakiya said digital innovation was transforming railway operations and that the development of Punctuality BZA and LTM BZA reflected the division's commitment to smarter and more efficient train management.

"These applications provide real-time operational intelligence, enabling quicker interventions and data-driven decision-making while allowing field staff to devote greater attention to safety and passenger service," he said.

Railway officials described the initiative as another milestone in improving punctuality, reliability and operational efficiency across the division.
