NELLORE: Varuna Japam and Yagams were performed at several temples across SPSR Nellore district on Tuesday, seeking timely and abundant rainfall, bumper crops and prosperity for farmers, fishermen and the public.

At the Sri Kamakshi Devi Sametha Sangameswara Swamy Temple in Sangam, priests performed Varuna Japam and Yagam as directed by endowments minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy. Priests sat in water and chanted Vedic mantras invoking Varuna Deva. TD leaders and devotees participated in the prayers.

At Sri Ramalingeswara Swamy Temple at Ramateertham in Vidavalur mandal, Kovur MLA Vemireddy Prashanti Reddy participated in a Varuna Yagam along with farmers, fishermen and women. She said such rituals were being conducted across the State under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s directions to pray for favourable weather and adequate rainfall. She expressed hope that the rains would bring bumper crops and prosperity to farmers and fishermen.

A Varuna Yagam was also held at the Sri Rajarajeswari Ammavari Temple in Nellore Rural constituency under the guidance of MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy. TD state spokesperson Kotamreddy Giridhar Reddy participated in the ritual. Vedic priests performed special pujas and homam, praying for copious rains, abundant crops and the welfare of the people.

Meanwhile, Sahasra Ghatabhishekam was performed at the Sri Kodanda Rama Swamy Temple at Tamminapatnam in Chillakur mandal amid Vedic chanting. Temple chairman Kota Satish Yadav and executive officer Giri Krishna were among those who participated.
