UP Police Constable Found Carrying Live Bullet at Vijayawada Airport
The live cartridge was meant for a double-barrel gun, police said.
Vijayawada:A Uttar Pradesh police constable was found carrying a live bullet in his baggage during security screening at Vijayawada airport on Wednesday, prompting airport security personnel to alert the local police.
According to Gannavaram police, the passenger was identified as Anand Kumar Yadav, a constable attached to the Kotwali police station in Uttar Pradesh. He had accompanied his brother to VIT University for a faculty recruitment interview and was returning to New Delhi when Air India staff detected the bullet during baggage screening.
Police said preliminary inquiry indicated that the constable had mistakenly carried a bag belonging to his uncle, a former Army personnel who is now employed as a security guard at a local SBI branch. The constable was reportedly unaware that the bag contained a live cartridge.
The live cartridge was meant for a double-barrel gun, police said.
Police have initiated an inquiry into the incident. No case had been registered at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, police said the constable’s uncle reported the disappearance of his bag with the live cartridge from his workplace after realising it was missing.
