Nellore:In a crackdown on illegal fishing activities within the territorial waters of Andhra Pradesh, a joint team of the Fisheries department, Marine police and Forest department on Tuesday seized two mechanised fishing boats from Tamil Nadu that had allegedly entered Andhra waters without authorisation.
Acting on directions of SPSR Nellore district collector Himanshu Shukla, authorities have been conducting continuous sea patrols using two mechanised boats to curb illegal fishing by large vessels from neighbouring states.
During a patrol operation on Wednesday, officials detected two mechanised fishing boats from Tamil Nadu operating approximately 15 kilometres off the coast of Indukurupeta mandal within Andhra Pradesh's territorial waters.
Joint teams from the Fisheries, Marine and Forest wings immediately intercepted and detained the boats. The seized vessels have been escorted to Juvvaladinne harbour and handed over to Marine police officials for further investigation and legal action.
Officials said AP is intensifying regular sea patrols to protect its marine resources and safeguard the interests of local fishermen. They maintained that strict action would be taken against vessels from other states that violate fishing regulations or trespass into Andhra Pradesh's territorial waters.
