Union Minister Hails NDA for Upping Infra Budget to ₹12.02 Lakh Crore in 12 Years

The union minister expressed confidence that passengers will be able to use the new terminal by December end.

Vijayawada:Union Heavy Industries and Steel minister of state Bhupathi Raju Srinvasa Varma credited the BJP-led NDA government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for enhancing the budget allocation for infrastructure development to ₹12.02 lakh crore from ₹2 lakh crore in the last 12 years.

Srinvasa Varma, along with Vijayawada MP Kesineni Chinni and others, inspected the progress of works at the new terminal of the Vijayawada International Airport on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the union minister said the new terminal is being taken up at a revised cost of ₹824.28 crore in an area spread over 51,315 square metres, including the basement. He said the terminal has been designed to withstand the rush of nearly 3.5 million air passengers per annum, at a time handling 800 domestic and 400 international passengers.

Srinvasa Varma said the new terminal would have 24 check-in counters, eight customs and immigration counters, six passenger boarding bridges, nine departure gates, 10 escalators, 19 elevators, 648 cars’ parking facility, and 1,270 metres- long elevated road.

The union minister expressed confidence that passengers will be able to use the new terminal by December end.
