Eluru: Andhra Pradesh Municipal Minister P Narayana said the Andhra Pradesh government is promoting Trupti Canteens to economically strengthen the Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas (DWCRA) women. Speaking during his visit to Eluru on Saturday, the minister said setting up Trupti Canteens is part of the government's decision to turn women into entrepreneurs.
Trupti Canteens are women-run food stalls introduced by the Andhra Pradesh government to provide hygienic, affordable, and nutritious meals to the public. The initiative aims to empower women by transforming them into entrepreneurs. Each Trupti Canteen will be managed by members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), with a total cost of Rs 14.5 lakh per unit. SHG women will contribute 75% of the cost, while the remaining 25% will be supported under SARAS-Sale of Articles of Rural Artisans Society, a flagship initiative launched under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) and Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP).
As part of his tour, Minister Narayana participated in several programs in the district and inspected the Trupti Canteen being run under MEPMA. Minister Narayana, MLA Badeti Chanti, Mayor Shaik Noorjahan, and Collector Vetri Selvi had breakfast at the canteen.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said there are currently 8 Trupti Canteens operating across Andhra Pradesh. He added that 8 more are ready to be launched soon. He also stated that steps are being taken to set up another Trupti Canteen in Eluru.
