Traffic Violations Continue in Kurnool; 31,361 Cases Booked in Nine Months
Kurnool Range DIG Koya Praveen said the police had been conducting counselling sessions and awareness programmes regularly to improve compliance with traffic rules.
Kurnool: As many as 31,361 traffic violation cases were registered in Kurnool district during the past nine months despite repeated awareness programmes and enforcement drives by the police.
Drunken driving accounted for more than 6,000 cases during the period. Police have repeatedly warned motorists against driving after consuming alcohol.
Failure to wear helmets has also remained a concern, despite road accidents and repeated appeals by the police to follow basic road safety precautions.
More than 83 cases involving minors driving vehicles were registered during the nine-month period. In some cases, school-going children were found riding scooters and other vehicles.
Kurnool Range DIG Koya Praveen said the police had been conducting counselling sessions and awareness programmes regularly to improve compliance with traffic rules.
“We have been conducting counselling and awareness programmes every day in one form or another. However, motorists must realise that traffic rules are meant for their own safety. We will take stringent action against violations hereafter and will not spare anyone,” he said.
The DIG said special focus would also be placed on vehicles fitted with modified silencers that produce excessive noise.
“We will keep a special watch on vehicles whose silencers have been removed or modified to create excessive noise and take action against those violating the rules,” he said.
