Tirupati Becoming an Industrial Hub While Being a Popular Pilgrimage Hub
The latest round of approvals by the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB), chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, is expected to further strengthen the district’s industrial base and employment potential.
Tirupati: Tirupati district, known globally for its hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala and pilgrimage-driven economy, is now attracting major investments with companies across automobile, green energy, and manufacturing sectors planning large-scale projects in the region.
For decades, the region's economy largely revolved around pilgrimage tourism linked to the Tirumala Temple, hospitality, transport, and allied services catering to millions of devotees every year. However, the rapid expansion of industrial corridors around Sri City and Satyavedu, apart from electronics manufacturing clusters, has gradually added an industrial dimension to the district’s economy.
The latest round of approvals by the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB), chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, is expected to further strengthen the district’s industrial base and employment potential.
Among the major proposals is Royal Enfield establishing a manufacturing facility in Satyavedu mandal near the Andhra Pradesh-Tamil Nadu border. The company is expected to invest around ₹2,200 crore in two phases for the project, which is likely to create nearly 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Around 267 acres have been allotted in Vanelluru and Rallakuppam villages for the proposed unit. Along with the manufacturing facility, the company is expected to develop a vendor park to support ancillary industries and component manufacturers. The first phase of the project is targeted for completion by 2029.
Reacting to the development, Education, IT and Electronics minister Nara Lokesh said, “Royal Enfield is a globally recognised motorcycle brand known for its heritage and quality. Its decision to invest here shows the growing confidence industries have in the state’s infrastructure, industrial ecosystem, and ease of doing business. The project, along with the vendor and ancillary units around it, will further strengthen the state’s manufacturing sector."
Apart from automobile manufacturing, Tirupati district is also attracting investments in emerging sectors. Yamanko India Private Limited has proposed a green hydrogen project involving an investment of ₹9,398 crore, with employment potential of over 5,800 people. In the food processing sector, Hangyo Ice Creams will establish a new unit in the district with an investment of ₹74.49 crore, creating around 100 jobs.
Carrier has started building its chilling equipment manufacturing unit in the district with an investment of ₹863 crore. The project is expected to generate employment for around 721 people. Apollo Tyres has announced plans to set up a manufacturing facility at Sri City with an investment of ₹6,100 crore, which is expected to provide employment to nearly 1,000 persons.
