Thunderstorms Lash Vizag Region, Mixed Weather in State

Visakhapatnam: Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds lashed Visakhapatnam city Thursday morning, bringing much relief from the summer heat of recent days.
The strong winds uprooted trees in some areas and disrupted vehicular traffic. Though the rain and winds cooled the city in the morning, sunshine and humidity made the afternoon uncomfortable.
IMD said conditions are favorable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of southwest and southeast Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep area, southwest, east central and west central Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of southeast Bay of Bengal and some parts of northeast Bay of Bengal during the next two to three days.
Weather reports said the state experienced mixed weather conditions, hot and humid, in parts of coastal AP and Rayalaseema, and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in some other parts of the coastal belt.
Parts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, ASR, Anakapalle, Eluru, East Godavari, Konaseema, West Godavari, Kadapa, Nandyal, Prakasam, Palnadu, Kakinada, Manyam and Chittoor districts also experienced thunderstorms.
As per IMD, Amaravati was the hottest in the state on Thursday at 43.4°C, followed by 42°C each at Nandigama, Gannavaram, Jangamaheswarapuram, and Kavali, 41.8°C at Bapatla , 41.6°C at Nellore, 41°C at Ongole, Tirupati at 40.2°C, and Nandyal at 40°C. The other regions recorded maximum temperatures between 35°C and 39°C.
The IMD forecast heatwave conditions for parts of the Palnadu, Bapatla, Guntur, Krishna, NTR, West Godavari and Konaseema districts on Friday. The rest of the coastal region would experience hot and humid weather conditions during the period.
Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning are likely at isolated places over coastal AP and Rayalaseema. Strong winds with gusty speed reaching 50-60Kmph are likely at isolated places over coastal Andhra, Yanam and Rayalaseema. Hot and humid weather is likely at isolated places over coastal AP and Yanam on May 30 and 31.
