Tension Erupts In Gudivada As TD, YSRC Supporters Clash Over Flexis, Programmes
The police intervened and asked Venkataramaiah not to proceed further, citing the tense atmosphere.
Vijayawada:Tension prevailed in Gudivada, Krishna district, on Saturday as supporters of the ruling Telugu Desam and opposition YSR Congress parties confronted each other over political flexis and overlapping public programmes.
YSR Congress planned a meeting titled ‘Babu Surety…Mosam Guarantee’ at K-Convention Centre. Meanwhile, Gudivada MLA Venigandla Ramu (TD) launched a door-to-door campaign under ‘Suparipalana - Tholi Adugu’, with a gathering at Nagavarappadu Centre.
A controversial flexi erected by TD supporters showed former MLA Kodali Nani polishing Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s shoes, referring to his earlier public challenge related to Naidu’s Kuppam victory. This incensed YSRC workers, escalating tensions.
As former MLA Perni Venkataramaiah was en route to the YSRC event, TD supporters—angered by his recent remarks—reportedly tore down YSRC flexis. The police intervened and asked Venkataramaiah not to proceed further, citing the tense atmosphere.
Meanwhile, Krishna Zilla Parishad chairperson U. Harika, on her way to attend the YSRC event, refused to heed police advice to turn back. She remained inside her locked car at Nagavarappadu Centre until an unidentified person hurled a stone, shattering the rear windshield. She later visited One Town police station and lodged a complaint.
Krishna district SP R. Gangadhar Rao said, “The situation in Gudivada is under control, and normalcy has been restored.”
