AP Leads Country in Micro Irrigation Coverage
State covers 1.26 lakh hectares, benefits over 1 lakh farmers
Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh has emerged as the top-performing state in the country in the implementation of the Micro Irrigation Project (APMIP), with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressing satisfaction over the achievement.
The state has surpassed its targets for the 2025–26 financial year, bringing a record 1,26,057 hectares under micro irrigation. The Chief Minister lauded officials and staff for their efforts, noting that Gujarat stands second with 1.05 lakh hectares.
He said the achievement reflects the government’s focus on optimal utilisation of water resources and effective field-level implementation. He also congratulated 1,08,143 farmers who have benefited from the scheme.
Naidu said the adoption of drip and sprinkler irrigation methods helps conserve water, reduce cultivation costs and improve farm productivity. He reiterated support for farmers cultivating crops such as tomato, oil palm, chilli and pulses.
Under the project, subsidies worth Rs 1,030 crore have been extended to farmers. The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure timely disbursal of benefits and further streamline implementation.
He also called for expansion of micro irrigation to additional areas and urged officials to work towards making Andhra Pradesh a global horticulture hub.
