Kakinada: Tense situation prevailed at the residence of advocate and Telugu Desam leader Edpuganti Srinivas in Eluru on Sunday night after Denduluru MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar and his supporters gathered near the house.

Srinivas had served as vice-president of the Telugu Desam’s legal cell and reportedly maintained close political association with the MLA. However, differences emerged between the two in recent years.
Supporters of Srinivas alleged that he had raised issues relating to sand, mining and liquor-related irregularities in the Denduluru constituency. They also said he had been subjected to criticism on social media by the MLA’s supporters.
According to reports, those who gathered near Srinivas’ residence on Sunday night sought action against him.
A fresh attempt was made by Srinivas’ supporters to approach the MLA’s residence again on Monday afternoon, but police prevented any escalation. Eluru II Town police said Srinivas was taken into preventive custody and produced before a court on Monday.
Meanwhile, Eluru district Telugu Desam president and local MLA Badeti Radhakrishna (Chanti) announced the suspension of Srinivas from the party on disciplinary grounds. He stated that Srinivas had earlier served as legal cell vice-president but did not currently hold any party post.
He said the suspension was imposed following allegations that Srinivas made objectionable remarks against Chintamaneni Prabhakar.
