Nellore: Minister Dola Sribala Veeranjaneya Swamy on Sunday accused the YSR Congress of resorting to violence and intimidation during the local body nomination process, alleging that the party was unable to accept its anticipated defeat.

Speaking to the media, he alleged that YSRC activists triggered violence in Punganur, Chittoor and Madanapalle, while party workers attacked a sub-inspector in Darsi.

The Minister criticised YSRC chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for speaking about democracy, alleging that democratic values had been undermined during the party’s five-year rule.

He also levelled allegations against Jagan in connection with the murder of his uncle Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy.

Swamy said people would no longer be misled by Jagan’s statements and maintained that local body elections were being conducted freely and fairly across the State.

Warning that attacks on police personnel would not be tolerated, he said strict action would be taken against those responsible for the alleged assault on the sub-inspector in Darsi.
