SVU Student Designs App To Help Farmers Trade In Livestock

TIRUPATI: An engineering student from Sri Venkateswara University (SVU), Tirupati, has developed a digital platform that changes the way rural communities buy, sell, and manage livestock in addition to farm produce.
The Animal Market App of Macha Poorna Prasad, a fourth-year B. Tech (CSE) student of SVU College of Engineering, is an online marketplace that supports farmers, cattle owners, small traders, veterinary doctors and others, who currently depend on unorganised, offline markets.
Prasad said his motivation for the app came from lack of transparent price systems in livestock markets and dependency on middlemen. Users can post listings with photographs, receive price suggestions using artificial intelligence and track buyer interest instantly.
The app founder said, “Farmers do not get a fair price for their products because they lack a structured system. Technology can solve this gap by bringing a simple marketplace into their hands.
According to him, transparency and instant access to sellers are key goals.
His application allows farmers to buy and sell cattle, goats, sheep, poultry, dairy products, vegetables, fruits, animal feed and crop produce on a verified and traceable platform.
The app includes features that go beyond trading. Farmers can consult registered veterinary doctors, receive vaccination reminders, track animal health records and get alerts about diseases reported in nearby regions. A knowledge-sharing forum allows users to discuss crop issues, breeding methods, fodder management and market trends.
The app additionally offers simplified articles on new agricultural technologies, cattle management and modern practices, especially useful for first-time farmers and dairy entrepreneurs. “This platform is not just a market. It is a community space that educates and connects people”, Prasad maintained.
He pointed out that the Animal Market App’s beta phase has delivered promising results with over 9,500 downloads, 15,000 active listings, 2,700 animals traded, 100 veterinarians onboard, and transactions amounting to ₹70 lakh.
Significantly, Prasad has also founded the student-led startup “Ceeras,” which has developed applications for more than 10 clients and facilitated over 1,200 real-time internships for students, creating a bridge between academia and industry.
SVU vice chancellor Prof. Tata Narasinga Rao officially launched the Animal Market App at the university on Wednesday. He personally observed a tomato purchase transaction during the app’s demonstration.
Narasinga Rao said, “The model is practical, transparent and valuable to farming communities. SVU is a temple of learning. Its students should use its environment to build solutions that make a real difference.”
