Special NIA Court To Be Established in Vizag
New court will have exclusive jurisdiction over NIA cases across Andhra Pradesh
Visakhapatnam: A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court will be established in Visakhapatnam following a gazette notification issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. Similar special courts will also be established in Jaipur and Patna.
NIA court public prosecutor Yateendra Raju said the existing designated courts at the Second PDJ Court in Vijayawada and the Third Additional District Court in Visakhapatnam would cease to operate.
“The new special court will have jurisdiction over the entire Andhra Pradesh exclusively for NIA-investigated scheduled offences,” he said.
There are currently 16 cases under trial, including two pending before the Vijayawada court, Raju said.
The new special court is likely to be established at the VMRDA Complex in Siripuram, he added.
Visakhapatnam also has an NIA branch office at Rushikonda, which functions as an investigation and administrative office and is separate from the proposed court.
