Somireddy Welcomes ED Move For Daily Hearings In Jagan’s DA Cases
TDP MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy welcomed the ED’s plea for daily hearings in disproportionate assets cases against Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to expedite the trial.
TD leader and Sarvepalli MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy has welcomed the enforcement directorate’s (ED) petition seeking day-to-day hearings in the disproportionate assets cases against YSRC president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, demanding that proceedings be conducted throughout the day to ensure an early verdict.
Speaking to the media, Somireddy said the CBI registered cases in 2011 alleging that Jagan had amassed assets worth over `43,000 crore by misusing his father’s official position. He questioned the delay in commencing the trial even after 15 years and alleged that discharge petitions were being used to stall proceedings.
Citing cases involving former prime minister P.V. Narasimha Rao and former deputy prime minister L.K. Advani, Somireddy argued that trials in high-profile cases could be completed within a few years. He questioned whether Jagan was above the law and the Constitution and criticised him for allegedly avoiding court appearances.
With hundreds of witnesses to be examined, Somireddy said hearings should continue from morning to evening to expedite the trial. He maintained that the ED’s petition was long overdue and said the public must have confidence that the law applies equally to everyone, irrespective of wealth or political influence.
