Sirimanu Utsavam To Conclude By 5 Pm; 3.5 Lakh Devotees Expected
Vizianagaram administration advances the Sirimanu Utsavam schedule to 3 pm on October 27, expecting 3.5 lakh devotees amid election duties and cyclone warnings.
Vizianagaram district collector S. Ram Sundar Reddy has directed officials to begin the Sri Paidithalli Ammavari Sirimanu Utsavam at 3 pm on October 27 and conclude it by 5 pm, in view of the municipal elections and cyclone warnings.
Reviewing preparations with officials from various departments at the collectorate on Wednesday, the collector said the festivities should be held earlier than usual without compromising traditional customs. He stressed the need to complete the event on time, as a distribution centre for the municipal elections must be set up on October 28.
He directed departments to coordinate closely and ensure adequate arrangements for quality prasadam, drinking water, sanitation, medical camps and additional bus services. He also called for cleanliness drives, levelling of the open space around the temple and laying of carpets for the convenience of devotees.
Security arrangements for the Teppotsavam and other key events were also reviewed. In view of the festival, municipal elections and vote counting, the district administration has ordered the closure of all liquor shops and bars from October 27 to 30.
Superintendent of police A.R. Damodar said about 3.5 lakh devotees were expected to attend this year's Sirimanu Utsavam. He said free bus services could increase turnout among women devotees and stressed the need to complete the programme before sunset.
The SP directed officials to install three-tier barricading along the procession route and two-tier barricading in designated enclosures. He also suggested that shops along the route be closed from the previous night and that the sacred ghatams be transported promptly after the goddess's darshan.
