Nellore: Jana Sena has agreed to contest eight divisions in the Nellore Municipal Corporation elections following prolonged negotiations with Telugu Desam (TD) leaders, dropping its initial demand for 30 per cent of the seats and speculation that it might contest independently.

Under the seat-sharing arrangement, Jana Sena has been allotted divisions 6, 15, 21 and 71 in Nellore city and divisions 29, 30, 45 and 53 in the rural area.

The BJP has been allocated divisions 7, 13 and 60 in the city and divisions 31, 42 and 43 in the rural area.

Jana Sena candidates who filed nominations in divisions beyond the eight allotted to the party have been asked to withdraw.

Minister P. Narayana and Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy reportedly instructed TD candidates to withdraw their nominations in the eight divisions allocated to Jana Sena to ensure coordination among alliance partners.

Meanwhile, the contest in division 10 has drawn attention after Sujana, who initially filed her nomination as a BJP candidate, was denied the party's B-form under the seat-sharing arrangement.

She subsequently joined the YSRC, but election officials rejected her nomination filed with the party's B-form on technical grounds.

She is now contesting as an independent candidate with YSRC support, challenging TD candidate Koteswari’s prospects of being elected unopposed in the division.
